Reds Lyrics

She always felt so cold, in her white walled hospital room
She said "I need a bit of warmth
So I can use the reds to fight my blues"
I promised her I'd find a way
To change the lack of color where she hurts
And while she don't care much for me
I'd bleed and bruise and I would kill for her
I watched her fall in love
With that bastard, who don't give a damn
To him, she's one of many ongoing one night stands
And she's still cold

I followed him, pulled out my knife
I stabbed that motherfucker
In the throat until he died
And I wiped his blood, across my lips
You don't know love, until you've tasted it
Shivering she cried, "I hope he's fine"
I painted her room in warm blood red lies
And she ain't cold
There's color on every wall
She don't care much for me
I don't care at all, at all

Genius Annotation

An acoustic song posted to Brad Garcia’s Tumblr in 2014. A download link was also shared the same day. It is one of four collaborations he has done with Canadian singer-songwriter Nicole Dollanganger. The other three were a live version of Nicole’s song Coma Baby, a cover of Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl by Broken Social Scene, and a cover of Devil Town by Daniel Johnston.

Brad has described the song as being about being a smitten, self-centred dumb ass. It was written in an empty apartment several months before being recorded and released.

On the original post, Nicole commented:

“uh so brad wrote one of the most perfect songs i’ve ever heard and even let me sing on it too. he is really something else and can u even fucking believe he almost decided to never let this song see the light of day”
