Tears of the Dragon Lyrics

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
For too long now
There were secrets in my mind
For too long now
There were things I should've said

[Verse 2]
In the darkness
I was stumbling for the door
To find a reason
To find the time, the place, the hour

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Waiting for the winter sun
And the cold light of day
The misty ghosts of childhood fears
The pressure is building
And I can't stay away

[Chorus]
I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me
[Verse 3]
Where I was
I had wings that couldn't fly
Where I was
I had tears I couldn't cry

[Verse 4]
My emotions
Frozen in an icy lake
I couldn't feel them
Until the ice began to break

[Pre-Chorus 2]
I have no power over this
You know I'm afraid
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I'm slipping away

[Chorus]
I throw myself into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face the fear I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me

[Instrumental Break]
[Pre-Chorus 3]
Slowly I awake
Slowly I rise
The walls I built are crumbling
The water is moving, I'm slipping away

[Chorus]
I throw (I throw) myself (myself) into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face (to face) the fear (the fear) I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me

[Outro]
I throw (I throw) myself (myself) into the sea
Release the wave, let it wash over me
To face (to face) the fear (the fear) I once believed
The tears of the dragon
For you and for me

What did Bruce Dickinson say about "Tears of the Dragon"?
Genius Answer

Bruce Dickinson:

I realized that being in Maiden, I was immersed in the culture and I felt it had somehow enfeebled my artistic sense. In the meantime, I had left Iron Maiden and I think people around me thought there was a plan, and there wasn’t. The song “Tears of a Dragon” – “I throw myself in[to] the sea/Release the wave, let it wash over me” – that’s where I was at. I was floating downstream going, “I hope I end up on some kind of shore that’s not too rocky.” That was it. I left Iron Maiden to find out what was beyond. If I’d stayed, I’d never have found out, because nobody was going to tell me the truth about anything I did.
