red flags Lyrics

[Intro]
1, 2

[Verse 1]
I don't know when it became a contest
Of who could care less
Kinda confused, when did it get cool
To let you keep me on edge

[Pre-Chorus]
Content with the lack of attention
Grateful for drunken affection
Taking what's left instead of starting again
S'like I've rewired my head to accept, to accept that

[Chorus]
Birthdays, mistakes are for forgetting
Heartaches, headaches are for expecting
Asking questions makes you mad
And I will always take you back and
Red flags, red flags are for collecting

[Verse 2]
I don't know when I lowered my standards
So much I can't see
I fill up all of my closets with all your broken promises
And your insecurities
[Pre-Chorus]
My self-inflicted afflictions
Always so caught in convictions
Taking what's left instead of starting again
S'like I've rewired my head to accept, to accept that

[Chorus]
Birthdays, mistakes are for forgetting
Heartaches, headaches are for expecting
Asking questions makes you mad
And I will always take you back and
Red flags, red flags are for collecting

[Bridge]
Whatever happened to what I need, I need
Whatever happened to what I want, I want
How come you never ask what I need, I need
It's all I really wanted

[Chorus]
Birthdays, mistakes are for forgetting (forgetting, baby)
Heartaches, headaches are for expecting, oh
Asking questions makes you mad
And I will always take you back and
Red flags, red flags are for collecting
[Outro]
Red flags are for collecting, no
Red flags

Genius Annotation

First teased through her TikTok in April, “red flags” is about seeing signs of a bad relationship but continuing to date a person anyways. It’s release was officially announced on July 18th, and was then released on July 22, 2022. In an Instagram caption, she writes, “every lyric is honest and raw, every song represents a stage of grief….but grief isn’t f*ckng linear.”

It is the first single from the Caroline Kole’s yet unannouced next project, which was hinted at in the same instagram caption. She describes the song as “the first release of the new era.”
