I Hope You’re Happy Now
I Hope You’re Happy Now Lyrics
It's all on me, it's my mistake
I said I don't love you a little too late
But I guess there ain't ever a right time
And I don't know why it's called a goodbye
Go run my name into the ground
Tell everyone you know just how
How I slammed the door on our forever
But I promise you it's for the better
[Chorus: Both, Carly Pearce]
I hope you find what you were lookin' for
I hope your heart ain't hurtin' anymore
And you get movin' on, all figured out
And you don't hate me somehow
'Cause I hope you're happy now
[Verse 2: Lee Brice, Both]
Who knew this heart could break this hard
Or a love like ours could fall apart
Without so much as a warnin'
I thought that I was what you wanted
[Chorus: Both, Lee Brice]
Well, I guess you found what you were lookin' for
I guess my heart ain't worth it anymore
I'm a wreck, I'm a mess
And I ain't got nothin' left
And so I hope you're happy now
I hope you find what you were lookin' for
I guess my heart ain't worth it anymore
Hope you get movin' on, all figured out
And you don't hate me somehow
I'm a wreck, I'm a mess
And I ain't got nothin' left
So I hope you're happy now
[Outro: Both, Lee Brice]
Happy now
Oh, I hope you're happy now
Mm

“I Hope You’re Happy Now” was completely my story. I played with Luke [Combs] when “Hurricane” was out, so way before he was what he is now, and I just fell in love with his voice. I felt like we grew up the same; we grew up on ‘90s country, we’re the same age, and we just really love real songs and real singing. So I had asked to write with him, and we went in the room and just started talking and he knew exactly what I was getting out of and entering into, which is my now-husband. [Luke] had the idea, “I hope you’re happy now,” and he told me, “What if I play the role of your ex and we do a double meaning on it?” And he started playing this groove and that entire first verse just fell out of my mouth. It just was something that I felt like I needed to say. I would have loved to have sung it with Luke, but at the time I knew I wanted to put it out as my next single, just to further explain to people who I am—I want to be the next-generation female country artist—he wasn’t able to do that. I have been a Lee Brice fan for years and years and sent him the song and he flipped out over it. And I will tell you he took it to a place that I didn’t even know it could go vocally.
