Talking to Yourself Lyrics

[Pre-Chorus]
So tell me what you got on your mind
What you got on your mind
What you got on your mind
Am I keepin' you up at night?
Keepin' you up at night
I'll never let you be, no

[Chorus]
Are you thinkin' of me when you're with somebody else?
Do you talk to me when you're talkin' to yourself?
Are you reachin' for me, makin' love to someone else?
Do you talk to me (To me)
When you're talkin' to yourself-self?
When you're talkin' to your—
Talk to me (To me)
When you're talkin' to your—

[Bridge]
Are you thinkin' of me?
Does it kill you that you're thinkin' of me?

[Chorus]
Are you thinkin' of me when you're with somebody else?
Do you talk to me when you're talkin' to yourself?
Are you reachin' for me, makin' love to someone else?
Do you talk to me (To me)
When you're talkin' to yourself-self?
When you're talkin' to your—
Talk to me (To me)
When you're talkin' to yourself-self
When you're talkin' to your—
Talk to me (To me)
When you're talkin' to yourself

Genius Annotation

The third song and single off CRJ’s 2022 album, The Loneliest Time, “Talking to Yourself” is about an ex who haunts the other partner’s thoughts after a breakup. “Are you thinkin' of me when you’re with somebody else?” the speaker asks the song’s subject rhetorically. The pre-choruses reveal the truth, though: “I’ll never let you be,” she admits, knowing full well that she’s the one that got away.

Sonically, the song resembles the singer’s past work, mainly the 80’s inspired, synth-heavy Emotion.
