Candle Lyrics

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
Nothing's happened, you can calm down now
You're not a monster and no one's gonna shut you out
Mum and Dad love you, you can come home now
Of course your friends love you, what are you talking about?

Have the strength to push away all the pain of yesterday
'Cause there's nothing worth crying about
Your heart is a candle and I won't let you blow it out

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 2]
So what, you messed up, at least it won't happen again
Every time I screw up, I feel I've let down all my friends
Stumbling through a thousand stars and neon cars break through my skull (Stumbling through a thousand stars and neon cars break through my skull)
There's so much life out here in space, it's crazy that we're here at all (There's so much life out here in space, it's crazy that we're here at all)

[Outro]
(Crazy that we're here at all)
(Crazy that we're here at all)
(There's so much life out here in space, it's crazy that we're here at all)
(There's so much life out here in space, it's crazy that we're here at all)
(There's so much life out here in space, it's crazy that we're here at all)
(There's so much life out here in space, it's crazy that we're here at all)

Genius Annotation

Candle is the first track of Cavetown’s fourth album, Everything Is Made Of Stars. This song sounds like it is being sung by Robbie to a person who is having a panic attack. It is implied that he is also trying to stop this person from committing suicide, because he tells them not to blow out their candle and that they beat the odds just by being alive.
The typical ruminations of a person with anxiety are brought up here in the first verse as he comforts the person, such as a belief that no one loves them now or they are a monster. He compares their heart to a candle, with a wavering flame that should never be snuffed out.
In the second verse, he tells them that he understands how they feel and tries to cheer them up by telling them how lucky they are to be here.
