“Grocery Store” is a rework of Cavetown’s 2021 collaboration with Kina, “Trying Not To Cry”. The song was first announced by Cavetown in June 2022 on social media, later posting:

new song time !! well i guess its a new vibe for an existing song but this is just my specialty at this point. hope u like <3

In this version, Cavetown produces, and provides a more acoustic rendition of the single, versus the initial track’s electro-pop sound. He explained that he had been inspired to rework the song by Kina’s work on the original in a feature with Euphoria:

[The song] ended up sounding really cool and I loved it. And I made a music video with him for that version and just listened to the song a bunch. Because of that, I was like, “Wait, I do like the song. Actually, I want to see what I can make out of it [with] a new different version.” I made an acoustic version that I put on my YouTube channel, which I feel more inspired by it now. That’s pretty much how they’re linked. I just lost the steam for it then I regained it.

“Grocery Store” also features on the deluxe edition of their fifth studio album, worm food.
