Forgive Me Lyrics
Feel like I'm high up, yeah
I'm too high up
I'll let the light light up
[Verse 1]
Movin' too fast, now you caught in the middle
Try so hard to keep up, now you single
Bettin' you'll regret what you did just a little
Ah, ah
[Pre-Chorus]
Baby, what you think this is?
Why you wanna plead the fifth?
You ain't gotta tell me what it is
'Cause I saw the messages
You must got me fucked up
You must got me fucked up
I think I had enough
[Chorus]
So forgive me, forgive me
I been goin' too hard in your city
So forgive me 'cause I'm not teary
Best believe I'll move onto better things
Oh, you lie, oh, you lie
Give me back all my time
So forgive me, no, not really
Best believe I'll move onto better things
I've been sittin' here, watchin' you go insane
I've been sittin' here, watchin' us fade away
Baby, don't you see what you done threw away?
No one's hittin' you on the loop, on replay
[Pre-Chorus]
Baby, what you think this is?
Why you wanna plead the fifth?
You ain't gotta tell me what it is
'Cause I saw the messages
You must got me fucked up
You must got me fucked up
I think I had enough
[Chorus]
So forgive me, forgive me
I been goin' too hard in your city
So forgive me 'cause I'm not teary
Best believe I'll move onto better things
Oh, you lie, oh, you lie
Give me back all my time
So forgive me, no, not really
Best believe I'll move onto better things
[Outro]
Goodbye, you stay wastin' time
No, you never try
You said this for life
But you know you lied
Catch you every time like
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
About
“Forgive Me” is the second track of Ungodly Hour. It is led into by the album’s signature message:
Don’t ever ask for permission, ask for forgiveness.
The song drives the message of being completely unapologetic in who you are and feeling self-empowered, regardless of who accepts or rejects it. Knowing that you never have to apologize or feel “teary” over what another person perceives you to be or how another person chooses to treat you. Recognizing that those perceptions are simply a reflection of their energy alone and have nothing to do with your own.
As Chloe states in an interview with Apple Music:
Forgive me for not caring and giving you that energy to control me and make me sad.”
Chloe x Halle deliver this message with a strong, fierce and unapologetic demeanor through their vocals, and throughout the dark yet vibrant music video. While embodying this fierce attitude the sisters also embody a calming and sophisticated demeanor. This can be tied into the song’s message of being completely unapologetic and unphased.
As Chloe x Halle’s energy remains solid they continue to move forward in their power, no permission is asked, no forgiveness is needed, and not a tear is shed.

I love it because it’s so badass, and it’s taking your power back and not feeling like your self-worth is in the trash. I remember we were all in the studio with [songwriter] Nija [Charles] and [producer] Sounwave, and for me personally, I was going through a situation where I was dealing with a guy and he picked someone else over me, and it really bothered me because I felt like it wasn’t done in the most honest light. I like to be told things up front. And so when we were all in the session, this had just happened to me. I went in the booth and laid down some melodies, and some of the words came in, and then Halle went in and she sang “forgive me,” and I thought that was so strong and powerful, and Nija laid down some melodies. We kind of constructed it as a puzzle in a way. It felt so good—it felt like we were taking our power back, like, “Forgive me for not caring and giving you that energy to control me and make me sad.”
They’re so hands-on with everything, from melodies to lyrics and production… watching them work always makes me go back home and want to perfect my craft.
