tiny victories Lyrics
Some days, I Iook in the mirror and I think
The meanest things, all the meanest things
Some days, I'm holding my self-worth up
By a string, a string
But every day that I don't hide myself away
To me, is a tiny victory
[Verse 2]
Some days, it feels like a wrecking ball swinging
Through my ribcage, my ribcage
Some nights I'm just a million broken pieces singin'
On a stage
I'm a little more broken open, but a little more free
And that's a tiny victory
[Chorus]
And if battles can win a war
I can keep picking my sword up off the floor
And learn to treasure these
Tiny victories, tiny victories
[Verse 3]
Some days, givin' up on myself looks so
So easy to do, it's so easy to do
The struggle is slow, I'm barely movin' the needle
And the cracks may be few, but there's light coming through
And if battles can win a war
I can keep picking my sword up off the floor
And learn to treasure these
Tiny victories, tiny victories
Tiny victories, tiny victories
[Outro]
Every day that I don't hide myself away
Every day that I don't hide myself away
To me, is a tiny victory
About
Written specifically for the FOSTER soundtrack, “tiny victories” is a slow-paced ballad exploring the realm of self-worth – and defeating the nemesis that sometimes takes the form of your own mind. Accompanied by solo piano, the stripped-back production enhances themes of both vulnerability and empowerment as reflected in the lyrics.
This is not the first time Christina has explored these ideas – on 2014’s Head or Heart, “I Believe” touches upon finding hope in the face of adversity, whilst the hit single “Human” questions the value of one’s self in an unbalanced relationship.

Christina Perri:
It is an honor and a privilege to lend my voice and words to this story. the song is about overcoming something standing in your way, when sometimes it can look very small, but only you know how important the victory is. it encompasses every truth we have & i hope it speaks to the subject matter of this powerful film – that triumph comes in all forms; it’s all meaningful, it’s all a victory!
