The Love Still Held Me Near Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Awake, awake, my darling
The moon is down
The waves, the waves, they are crashing all around
What would you do?
What would you say, if I was gone?
Losing your breath
Toil and sweat
Just hold on

[Chorus]
If you say it now
Leave no doubt
You'd shatter the earth
It's where I will be found
'Cause the love still held me near
Say it now
Then time will disappear

[Verse 2]
Awake, awake, my darling
From your beautiful dream
Save me from my sorrow
Which burns eternally
Oh, hammer me down
Into the fire, I am reborn
Let love's energy pour into me
I am yours
[Chorus]
If you say it now
Leave no doubt
You'd shatter the earth
It's where I will be found
'Cause the love still held me near
Say it now
And time will disappear

[Bridge]
On still waters the sky lay its head
Hope is hanging on by a thread

[Chorus]
Say it now
Leave no doubt
Shatter the earth
It's where I will be found
'Cause the love still held me near
Say it now
And time will disappear

Dallas Green:

There’s a bunch of direct songs on this record, but then there’s ones like this that really cross paths between mourning my friend and mourning my relationship, and mourning the loss of everything that was going on in my life [during the pandemic]. My identity had disappeared, my livelihood had disappeared, my relationship had disappeared, my friend was gone—there was this overarching theme of loss that felt like it was being sewn into the fabric of my life. So, this song is like the intersection of all of those things and me trying to remain hopeful.
