The Water is Coming Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The water is coming
Will we hold back the rising tide?
The water is coming
Can we survive mankind?
Pray for redemption
Gnash your teeth and gnaw it off at the bone
You keep on knocking
Turn your back, there ain't no one home

[Chorus]
Because you will not care for me
So, I will not care for you
Is this who we hope to be?
Living in our midnight's blackest doom
Old heavens without a star
All desires falling away
Off with the beggar's head
Is this the fate we face?

[Verse 2]
The moon began falling
Crashing straight down from the sky
My skin started crawling
Venomous thoughts tеaring up my insides
Flame of suspicion
Burning wild all through the night
That thе water is coming
And we will not survive mankind
[Chorus]
Because you will not care for me
So, I will not care for you
Is this who we hope to be?
Living in our midnight's blackest doom
Old heavens without a star
All desires falling away
Off with the beggar's head
Is this the fate we face?

[Outro]
'Cause you will not care for me
So, I will not care for you
You will not care for me
But what if I care?
What if I care?
What if I care?
What if I care?

Dallas Green:

There’s a great book called A Paradise Built in Hell by Rebecca Solnit. She studies a bunch of different disasters that have happened throughout human existence and theorises that humans are only truly beautiful to one another in times of absolute disaster. I thought it was really brilliant. She has this line in the book where she talks about how so much of life is spent in this ‘if you won’t care for me, then I won’t care for you’ attitude that we have for one another. It’s quite a large conversation to try to put into a four-minute song, but I like doing that.
