After Disaster Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Now, I know this might be the hurt talkin'
But I can't imagine a world without us
I didn't think it would be this lonely
But now I feel it deep in my guts
Oh, maybe I didn't care enough for you
But darlin', love ain't temporary
I'm gonna do some transformin'
And you won't recognize me

[Chorus]
And we'll be sailin' along
Sailin' along
Sailin' along
Sailin' along

[Verse 2]
And I know we're just searchin' for redemption
Terrified of fuckin' things up
I'm so exhausted by this longing
For that spark that flies between us
I know that the storm was devastating
But can't you see we survived?
I got a feelin' that after disaster
History will be of no guide
[Chorus]
And we'll be sailin' along
Sailin' along
Sailin' along
Sailin' along

Dallas Green:

This one’s more rooted in the personal-relationship side of things. It’s almost like I was trying to write a Pink Floyd song mixed with a Teddy Pendergrass song. I was really just trying to sing it and get it off my chest, but there was something about that ominous groove we came up with—I just wanted to ride it. I’ll write a song like ‘Fucked It Up,’ and I’ll think, ‘Yeah, this is just a nice song with a nice chorus,’ and the song presents itself very easily. But ‘After Disaster’ is almost more like a mood. I like to try to make the song sound like what I’m singing about.
