Meant to Be Lyrics
When I grew up
I had big city dreams
I wondered if the Bible was wrong
What the hell were they teachin' me?
I was lost in thought
And I could not hide it
But the sun, it kept on rising
So I played along
[Chorus]
But now that you're gone
And I write down this song
I don't believe
This is how it's meant to be
The church bells, they ring
You can hear the mourners sing
They still believe
This is how it's meant be
[Verse 2]
The wheels touch down
All I can see is your face
Amidst the noise of thе lights
The last thing on my mind was my faith
And then the morning camе
And the sun started rising
But I was missing my friend
So how do I carry on?
'Cause now that you're gone
And I write down this song
I don't believe
This is how it's meant to be
The church bells, they ring
You can hear the mourners sing
They still believe
This is how it's meant be
[Bridge]
Like a mother bird crying out for its young
I will sing out loud with all the might in my lungs
[Chorus]
'Cause now that you're gone
And I write down this song
I don't believe
This is how it's meant to be
The church bells, they ring
You can hear the mourners sing
They still believe
This is how it's meant be
[Outro]
How
Oh, how it's meant to be, yeah
About
In a social media post on 11/18/22, Dallas Green said the following:
“‘Meant to Be’ is a deeply personal song. I hope it resonates with you however you may need it to. It’s the first track that I wanted to share from an album I’ll be releasing in the new year. It is the most emotionally challenging yet rewarding record I’ve ever made, a true healing process in the face of unimaginable loss. I am immensely proud of it and of everyone who lent a helping hand in bringing it to life.”

Dallas Green:
I was born and raised Catholic, I went to Catholic school—and then I graduated and didn’t look back too much. I’ve always used a lot of religious imagery in my songs because it’s in my craw—it’s hard to unlearn all the stuff you’ve learned. So, I think I’ve always had a little bit of an inquisitive approach to it. I didn’t specifically set out to write a religious song here, and I didn’t really set out to write a song about what I was dealing with. But I knew they were going to intersect at some point, just because of the life I’ve had. So, this song is eulogising my friend, but also questioning things that I’ve been taught.
