Wish You Were Gay Lyrics
Picture this, you and me in the morning
Kissing over the coffee you're pouring
It could be like that every day
Hate it that I wish you were -
Hoping that I'm a better replacement
For the guys that you're always out chasing
Or should I accept things I can't change?
Hate it that I wish you were -
[Chorus]
I wish you were gay so you could just hold me
Call me your babe instead of your homie
Don't know what to say
But I wish you were gay
I wish you were gay so it would be easy
For me to say that I'm catching feelings
And I know you're straight
But I wish you were gay
[Verse 2]
Now I see you get off of the subway
Haven't seen you in months but it's okay
I'd forgotten but I feel the same
Hate that I still wish you were -
With your boyfriend, he's chatting my ear off
So I lie and I say I can't stay
Hate it I still wish you were -
[Chorus]
I wish you were gay so you could just hold me
Call me your babe instead of your homie
Don't know what to say
But I wish you were gay
I wish you were gay so it would be easy
For me to say that I'm catching feelings
And I know you're straight
But I wish you were gay
[Bridge]
We'd be so good
Give me one look
I know you don't mean it when you come to flirt
The dreams that I'm having are just getting worse
[Chorus]
I wish you were gay so you could just hold me
Call me your babe instead of your homie
Don't know what to say
But I wish you were gay
For me to say that I'm catching feelings
And I know you're straight
But I wish you were gay
[Outro]
I won't trade four roses for your heart
I won't wait forever in the dark
About
The debut single from Claud’s EP Sideline Star may share a similar title with Billie Eilish’s March 2019 “wish you were gay,” but lyrically, both songs are different. Claud has acknowledged the similarities of the titles and has even left a comment to thank the person who explained that their single is not a cover.
“Wish You Were Gay” is a love ballad by independent artist Claud. In the song, they sing about falling in love with a heterosexual person and hopes that she had liked them too.
Claud has shared with Billboard on June 27, 2019, about the inspiration behind the music video:
At the very core of it, the song is a ballad about unrequited love, and I really wanted the video to capture that. Queer or not queer, I think the experience of loving someone who just doesn’t love you back can happen to anyone.
T-shirts featuring the song title were also put out for sale a day after the track’s release. All proceeds were donated to The Trevor Project — a non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ youths.
