CHICKEN TENDIES Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I saw someone who looks just like you
In the back seat with her hand out the sunroof
I swear it was the dress that I gave you
And I wonder if your favorite color still blue?

[Pre-Chorus]
You're full of love, and wild and free
Chasin' every dream and possibility
You're more than I could ever be-e-e-e

[Chorus]
I hope He treats you better than I ever could
'Cause you deserve the world times two
And our simple Sunday afternoons
I hopе He's home for you evеn though I had to lose you
For you to find who fills your heart
Even if I'm not the one you choose
(Ohh, ohh, ohh
Ohh, ohh, ohh
Ohh, ohh, ohh
Ohh, ohh, ohh-ohh)

[Verse 2]
I thought I caught a glimpse of me and you
In our kitchen where I cooked your favorite food
And if I'm being honest, I was a fool
So say the word and I'll come runnin' back to you
[Pre-Chorus]
And you're full of love, and wild and free
Chasin' every dream and possibility
You're more than I could ever be-e-e-e

[Chorus]
I hope He treats you better than I ever could
'Cause you deserve the world times two
And our simple Sunday afternoons
I hope He's home for you even though I had to lose you
For you to find who fills your heart
Even if I'm not the one you choose

[Bridge]
Ohh, oh-oh-oh, ohh, oh-oh-oh
Ohh, oh-oh-oh, ohh, mmm

[Chorus]
I hope He treats you better than I ever could
'Cause you deserve the world times two
And our simple Sunday afternoons
I hope He's home for you even though I had to lose you
For you to find who fills your heart
Even if I'm not the one you choose
(Ohh, ohh, ohh)
And I hope He's home for you
(Ohh, ohh, ohh)
And our Sunday afternoons

About

Genius Annotation

“CHICKEN TENDIES” is Clinton’s first single in 2021, following up the release of the November 2020 single “remember the mornings.” In the song, Clinton opens up about his shattered relationship with his mother, of which he lost to her strong devotion to God.

The song was first teased as a “lil idea” in October 20, 2020 on his TikTok, then was followed with another preview of the chorus in a stripped down format 2 weeks after.

On December 10, 2020, Clinton shared a snippet of the song with the caption: “haven’t leaked a song in forever so here we are.” Ironically, he leaked the entire song on an Instagram livestream just weeks before its release.

After 4 months of continuously building up the song’s release, the long-awaited fan favorite was finally slated for a February release,

What did Clinton Kane say about "CHICKEN TENDIES"?
Genius Answer

In a TikTok, Clinton revealed the song’s purpose, saying:

I grew up in a church as a pastor’s kid in Australia. My mum was incredibly religious and honestly forced me to read the bible every single day for 15 years. She was full of love and was always chasing after her dreams, but she always put god before me and I felt neglected and felt like I was losing my mum to God. And to be honest, I have lost my relationship with her to God. We don’t talk anymore but I still have so much love for her and I only hope that God truly made her happy. I hope she sees this one day and that hopefully brings us back together.

I wrote this song about accepting things and relationships I can’t change, but still hoping the best for them.

How does "chicken tendies" relate to the song?
Genius Answer

It doesn’t. Clinton revealed on the Zach Sang Show that the song’s title was motivated by the reception he got from a TikTok of his where he reacted to the song:

Everyone thinks there’s a deeper meaning to it, but really like, I just did a reaction to it and it kind of blew up, and the line that said ‘In our kitchen where I cooked your favorite food; chicken tendies’, I only said that ‘cause I was really hungry and wanted chicken tendies at the moment. So there was no planning to it, I just really wanted it. And I kept doing it and everyone was like, 'Name it “CHICKEN TENDIES,”’ I was like, ‘You know what? Fuck it, let’s do it.’ So I did, then it happened.
