Meant for Me Lyrics

[Chorus]
You were meant for me to find
Meant for me to touch
Meant for me to learn from
Meant for me to trust

Meant for me to hold
Meant for me to choose
Meant for me to love
And meant for me to lose

[Bridge]
Like a falling star
You wish on 'til it's gone and fades into the dark
We laughed, we cried, we've got no regrets
And all the things you taught me, I won't forget, yeah

[Break]
Yeah, oh

[Chorus]
You were meant for me to find
Meant for me to touch
Meant for me to learn from
Meant for me to trust

Meant for me to hold
Meant for me to choose
Meant for me to love, love, love
Meant for me to lose
[Outro]
(You were meant for me)
(You were meant for me)
Meant for me to lose
(You were meant for me)
Oh, meant for me to lose
Meant for me

I was thinking how grateful I was for the relationship I had and what I learned from it, and all the amazing experiences during our time together. And I thought wow they really were meant for me, although that phrase usually means permanently, but I came to the realization that can also mean temporarily. They can be meant for you for that time, and also meant for you to lose. It’s a crushing line but so very true.

I was thinking how someone can be meant for you even if only for just a period of time, and wanted to write a song about it. I called Liz and AJ and said let’s write this together. They were my therapists 100%. Together we found the beautiful way of saying all the lovely ways someone is meant for you, and then Liz dropped the last line, “and meant for me to lose” and I was like, wow this is so perfectly said. It’s an unexpected twist that can crush you at first, but I think we can all relate to it.

Recording this song was so special. We rented a studio in Nashville for 2 weeks and set up shop with all the musicians and took our time adding all these beautiful colors to the record. I love the Dobro and wanted this song to stay sparse and warm sonically. But then the bridge comes in with more energy like you’re letting all of your emotions out that you’ve been holding in. I love the contrast so much.
