[Intro: Chris Martin, All]
You (You), you are (You are) my universe
And I (I) just want (Just want) to put you first
And you (You), you are (You are) my universe, and I
[Verse 1: Chris Martin]
In the night, I lie and look up at you
When the morning comes, I watch you rise
There's a paradise they couldn't capture
That bright infinity inside your eyes
[Pre-Chorus: Jung Kook, All, Jung Kook & Chris Martin]
Never-ending forever, baby
[Chorus: Chris Martin, All]
You (You), you are (You are) my universe
And I (I) just want (Just want) to put you first
And you (You), you are (You are) my universe
And you make my world light up inside
[Verse 2: V, RM, RM & Chris Martin, RM & Jimin]
(Eyes)
And they said that we can't be togethеr
Because, becausе we come from different sides
You (You), you are (You are) my universe
And I (I) just want (Just want) to put you first
And you (You), you are (You are) my universe
And you make my world light up inside
[Post-Chorus: All, Jin]
My universe (Do-do, do-do)
My universe (Do-do, do-do)
My universe (Do-do, do-do)
(You make my world)
You make my world light up inside
Make my world light up inside
[Bridge: j-hope, SUGA]
[Pre-Chorus: Jung Kook, Jung Kook & Jimin, Chris Martin & Jung Kook]
When I'm without you, I'm crazy
We are made of each other, baby
You (You), you are (You are) my universe
And I (I) just want (Just want) to put you first (To put you first)
And you (You), you are (You are) my universe
And you make my world light up inside
[Post-Chorus: All]
My universe (Do-do, do-do)
You, you are (You are)
My universe (Do-do, do-do)
I just want (Just want)
My universe
You, you are (You are) my universe, and I
My universe
[Outro: All]
(Ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy)
About
“My Universe,” an uplifting pop-rock song about a difficult love, works as the second promotional single from Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres.
The track, written by Coldplay alongside BTS' rappers, originally was made only for BTS, but the artists ended up performing it together. The harmonised chorus vocals were recorded in April 2021 when Coldplay’s Chris Martin visited South Korea. The song marks the first collaboration between the groups.
The rumors about a possible collaboration between Coldplay and BTS go back to February 2021, when BTS surprisingly covered Coldplay’s “Fix You” during their MTV Unplugged session. The performance gained worldwide recognition, and Coldplay took to Twitter to express their admiration for it. After this performance, fans of both bands expressed an interest in the groups collaborating, but the rumors truly sparked when Chris Martin was spotted at Incheon Airport in South Korea. The rumors continued when, during the interview for the promotion of “Higher Power,” he addressed the rumors, saying: “I love them a lot and so if the right song came along, I wouldn’t ever say no.”
In July 2021, part of the song was leaked online, thus confirming the collaboration. BTS' label, BigHit Music, released a press statement about Coldplay’s upcoming new song that supposedly featured BTS saying: “It’s hard to confirm.” Both artists continued hinting at the collaboration for months, with Chris Martin even singing a fragment of “My Universe” (including the Korean verse) on The Kelly Clarkson Show (as was reported by an audience member) and hosted a conversation with BTS for their “Permission to Dance” Challenge on YouTube Shorts.
The song was announced officially on September 13, 2021, with the press release info from both groups.

We really don’t believe in any boundaries or separation of anything really, and so the song “My Universe” is about someone being told they can’t love a certain other person, or can’t be with this race, or they can’t be gay, whatever it might be. And we thought it would be good to sing this with BTS because maybe we’re not supposed to be together. And it turned out to be one of the most fun things ever. I went to Korea to be with them, it’s been amazing.
It had been in my mind for a while that someone had said BTS were wondering if we’d do a song for them or something like that. And then we started communicating with BTS and then went to Korea. It’s something you could look at so cynically, and we have at times, but anytime there’s actual communication or music between us, it just feels so good. So I unabashedly and unashamedly feel really grateful for the song, grateful for the person that inspired the song, and grateful for the people we sing it with.
It’s a love song that came from a loving text. It’s a song about love that’s difficult, or it’s forbidden, or you can’t quite get it together, so it felt like really cool to have two bands that, it’s a difficult love story, but it works in the end. I love them, and we love them, and it’s been such a joy. It’s something you could look at so cynically—and we have at times—but anytime there’s actual communication or music between us, it just feels so good. I unabashedly and unashamedly feel really grateful for the song, grateful for the person that inspired the song, and grateful for the people we sing it with.
