Sound of Silence Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Growing tired and weary, brown eyes
Tryna feel your love through Facetime
Symphonies of dreams and highlights
Caught up in this crazy fast life
But baby you're not here with me

[Pre-Chorus]
And I keep calling, calling
Keep calling cause

[Chorus]
Now my heart awakes to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
Now my heart awakes to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence

[Verse 2]
Getting hard to break through the madness
You're not here, it never makes sense
Tidal waves of tears are crashin'
No one here to save me drownin'
Cause baby you're not here with me
[Pre-Chorus]
And I keep calling, calling
Keep calling cause

[Chorus]
Now my heart awakes to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
Now my heart awakes to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence

[Bridge]
I know I'm stronger and I'm capable
I know it's all in my head
But I keep calling, calling
Calling, calling

[Chorus]
Now my heart awakes to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
Now my heart awakes to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
And it beats to the sound of silence
Silence, silence

About

Genius Annotation

“Sound of Silence” was written, recorded and performed as Australia’s second ever Eurovision entry. It is described by Australian Eurovision broadcaster, SBS, as a “mid-tempo track [that] has an anthemic feel and a big, catchy chorus.”

Dami Im successfully qualified for the Grand Final and placed second with 511 points— 23 less than the winner, Ukraine’s “1944” by Jamala.

Dami reflected on the meaning of the song, stating:

There are many ways to interpret the meaning around a song, but one theme that I relate to in Sound of Silence is that of disconnection and being away from the people in my life that I love. We live in a world where it is easy to be connected every minute of the day but along with this connection you can feel alone and isolated.

The track’s writers Anthony Egizii & David Musumeci, also known as DNA Songs, stated:

“Sound Of Silence” is about feelings of nostalgia, distance and missing the one you love. It’s about how chasing your dreams can sweep you up in a wild rollercoaster ride and take you away from those closest to you. It explores the irony in how the ride can lose its lustre if you can’t share it with the person you love the most.

They won the Eurovision Marcel Besançon Composer Award for “the best and most original composition” (as pictured to the right).
