I Should Probably Go To Bed Lyrics
All of my friends finally convinced me to get out of the house
To help me forget, to help me move on
Then I heard you're back in town
In a crowd of strangers and lovers
Someone told me that you were comin'
[Chorus: Shay Mooney & Dan Smyers]
So I should probably go to bed (Ah)
I should probably turn off my phone
I should quit while I'm ahead (Ah)
I should probably leave you alone
'Cause I know in the mornin' (In the mornin')
I'll be callin' (I'll be callin')
Sayin' "sorry" for the things I said
So I, yeah, I should probably go to bed
[Verse 2: Shay Mooney]
So I don't undo the got-over-you
That I took so long to find
'Cause all it would take is seein' your face and I'd forget
[Chorus: Shay Mooney & Dan Smyers]
So I should probably go to bed (Ah)
I should probably turn off my phone
I should quit while I'm ahead (Ah)
I should probably leave you alone
'Cause I know in the mornin' (In the mornin')
I'll be callin' (I'll be callin')
Sayin' "sorry" for the things I said
So I, yeah, I should probably go to bed
Before I question my decision
Is it love? I know it isn't
Now I'm all up in my head again
'Cause I know I don't have the self-control
To walk away if you walk in
Oh, I know, I know, I know, I know
I should probably go to bed
[Chorus: Shay Mooney]
Ooh, I'm all up in my head (I'm all up in my head)
Ooh, I, I should go to bed (Go to bed)
Ooh, I'm (Go to bed) all up in my head (Go to bed)
Ooh, I, I should go to bed
[Outro: Shay Mooney]
In a crowd of strangers and lovers
Someone told me that you were comin'
So I should probably go to bed
About
Nearly eight months into 2020, “I Should Probably Go To Bed” marks Dan + Shay’s first song of the year. The track follows the duo’s hit success on the Justin Bieber-assisted “10,000 Hours” and should appear on their fourth studio album, DS4*.
At large, the lyrics describe an event in which one is tempted to reconnect with an ex-lover after they return home. It’s ultimately revealed that this is a poor choice and that the individual should “probably go to bed” instead.

We’ve obviously never written a song like that, and I’ve never really heard a song like that, especially in country music. We definitely took a lot of liberties.

Shay Mooney:
This was around the same time that we wrote ‘Glad You Exist.’ We were in LA right before the Grammys and we had had this little riff and this idea of ‘I should probably go to bed,’ and we didn’t finish it. Then, 2020—the pandemic struck and we got three shows in and the rug was pulled out from under everybody. Dan and I quarantined for what felt like a year and a half and it was probably three or so months. We didn’t get to see each other for that whole entire time. We got back together and we had that moment of just like, ‘Man, I’m very thankful for you. Let’s sit down and just let’s jam out for a second.’ Dan sat down on the piano and he started playing the “I Should Probably Go to Bed” riff and it was just like, ‘Whoa, man, this song is really cool.’
