Pain Is Inevitable Lyrics

[Intro]
Who runs the show?
Who runs the show?
Who runs the show?

[Verse 1]
Who runs the show who hands out the suspensions
I need a lesson in mishap prevention
Young boy who can't hear must feel
A masochist you know the deal
I rarely listen, I forgot to mention
And I'm in need of a damn intervention
Young boy who can't hear must feel
A masochist you know the deal

[Chorus]
Pain is inevitable
Misery's a choice
Pain is inevitable
Misery's a choice

[Verse 2]
Now I'm a product, that must turn a profit
Something to prove, I'm a god, I'm a prophet
Tryna be something that's real
Comes at a price, that's the deal
Against my better judgment
I agreed to something
Too deep to turn back
I'll deal with it in the afterlife
Young nigga done paid the price
Feels good to be nice

[Chorus]
Pain is inevitable
Misery's a choice
Pain is inevitable
Misery's a choice
Pain

[Outro]
What if, tonight, Lucifer comes for you
Turns out, your light, light

I hope, you're right (Yeah)
'Cause nobody wants to be
(I don't wanna be alone for the rest of my life, baby)
Alone, for life, life (Maybe a little bit)
So long, sweet boy (Oh, fuck)
You, will be missed (Baby, look what they did to me, baby)
Sweet as candy (Look what they did to me, I used to be so sweet)
Soft as a kiss (Smiling all the time, gigglin' and shit)
So long, sweet boy
You, you will be missed (I used to be a child, I just wanna be a child again)
Sweet as candy (This adult shit is for the birds)
Soft as a kiss
(I miss my innocence, I miss trusting people)
(I used to trust)
(Look what they did to me, baby)

Genius Annotation

Daniel focuses on youth and childhood — comparing his own childhood circumstances to his present ones. Society’s expectations and standards have driven Daniel to a point where he sees his childhood and innocence fading away. Daniel also shows how the upbringing and influences as a child shape how a person is, similar to the psychological debate “Nurture versus Nature”. Saying that pain is unavoidable, rather it’s how you deal with it that matters, shows Daniel’s growing maturity as a person. Inspiration from his past work, Pilgrims Paradise and CASE STUDY 01, are somewhat prevalent in the lyrics — he comes to self-realization, yet holds some regret.

Daniel, in an interview, said,

My mom told me recently ‘Oh, hey, you’re maturing’ and yeah I’m definitely growing up and in so many instances I resent it. In this job, like half the deal is remaining a child and not growing up. Full of Peter Pan syndrome ass individuals. You hear about man children, and I mean, how bad is it really? Those are my favourite type of people.
