As You Are Lyrics
You're feeling isolate, and all kinds frustrate
But I love you as you are, love you as you are, yeah
And don't worry about the haters
It don't fit in those boxes they create
And it's tearing you apart, it's tearing you apart, yeah
[Pre- Chorus]
And when you build those walls to keep you safe
It's like a prison you can't escape
You tear them down, you just might hear me say
[Chorus]
I love you as you are
I love you as you are
And when the whole damn world don't know, what they got 'til it's gone, I love you
I love you as you are
I love you as you are
And when the whole damn world don't know
What they got 'til it's gone, I love you
I love you as you are
[Verse 2]
You can come out of the shadows
They're only scared of what they don't know
But I love you as you are, love you as you are, yeah
Yeah, you waged this war within yourself
Wasting time dying in a shell
They don't define you, just know they never will
I love you as you are
I love you as you are
And when the whole damn world don't know, what they got 'til it's gone, I love you
I love you as you are
I love you as you are
And when the whole damn world don't know
What they got 'til it's gone, I love you
I love you as you are, yeah
I love you as you are
[Partial Verse 1]
You're feeling isolate, and all kinds frustrate
But I love you as you are, love you as you are, yeah
[Chorus]
I love you as you are
I love you as you are
And when the whole damn world don't know, what they got 'til it's gone, I love you
I love you as you are
When the whole damn world don't know
What they got 'til it's gone, 'til it's gone, 'til it's gone
I love you as you are, yeah
I love you as you are, yeah
When the whole damn world don't know, what they got 'til it's gone
I love you as you are

According to Chris Daughtry, yes. The song is about his wife and is inspired by her struggle to embrace her bisexuality. Chris Daughtry opened about about learning of her wife’s sexuality for the first time.
I didn’t care. I didn’t feel threatened. I wanted her to be happy with who she was and not hide that or be ashamed. It’s very important for people to know what the song is about and where it really came from. Otherwise we’re not being authentic with the song. We’re both after the same goal, and that’s being our true selves to each other.

Deanna Daughtry, who first wrote the song in 2015, opened up about the song lyrics and how embracing her bisexuality wasn’t that easy for her to do:
I was hiding and shutting down a part of myself, and it was causing me to shut down so many good, beautiful things about myself. As I built these walls up to protect myself, I was creating a prison, and I couldn’t fully experience life and people couldn’t fully experience me – and it’s all based on fear.
