Jesus Is Just Alright Lyrics

[Intro: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, TobyMac, Kevin Max]
Do do do do do
Do do do do
Do do do do do
Do do do
Kick it for me one time
Oh, yeah, yeah

[Chorus 1: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Kevin Max]
Jesus is still all right with me
Jesus is still all right, oh, yeah
Jesus is still all right with me
Jesus is still all right
You know that He's all right

[Interlude 1: DJ Grand Wizard Theodore & Joe Tex]
(Turn it up) (I gotcha)
(Turn it up)
(Turn it up) (I gotcha)
(Turn it up)

[Verse 1: TobyMac & James Brown]
(Uh) TobyMac, and the Mac is back, no slack
On a DC track that's jacked (Uh)
Beyond comprehension
I believe that I failed to mention (Uh)
That there's a lack of recognition
When it comes to His position (Uh)
'Cause if Christ can't be crossed over
Then I'll keep my beat up nova (Uh)
[Chorus 1: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Kevin Max]
Jesus is still all right with me
Jesus is still all right, oh, yeah
Jesus is still all right with me
Jesus is still all right
Whoa, whoa, whoa

[Chorus 2: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Michael Tait]
I don't care what they may say
I don't care what they may do
I don't care what they may say
'Cause Jesus is still all right
All right with me, yeah

[Verse 2: TobyMac & James Brown]
(Uh) Back in place, and I'm all up in your face
With a rhyme that I embrace (Uh)
Like a mother to her child
I'm kickin' it Jesus style (Uh)
To the ones that think they heard
I did use the "J" word (Uh)
'Cause I ain't too soft to say it
Even if DJ's don't play it (Uh)

[Breakdown: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Kevin Max, James Brown]
Do do do do do
Do do do
Do do do do do
Do do do
Do do do do do
Do do do
Jesus is still all right
Oh, I'm hopin' and I'm prayin' (Uh)
[Chorus 3: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Kevin Max, James Brown]
Jesus is still all right (Right, right, right)
Jesus is still all right, oh, yeah (Uh)
Jesus is still all right (Right, right, right)
Jesus is still all right (Uh)
Whoa, whoa, yeah

[Interlude 2: DJ Grand Wizard Theodore, Joe Tex & James Brown]
(Turn it up) (I gotcha) (Uh)
(Turn it up) (Uh)
(Turn it up) (I gotcha) (Uh)
(Turn it up) (Uh)

[Segue: Madonna, Michael Tait & TobyMac]
Strike a pose
H-h-how do they do that?
Strike a pose
H-h-how do they do that?
There's more, get in this, He's all right

[Bridge: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Jocelyn Brown, Double Dee & Steinski, James Brown]
Jesus is all right (I've got the power) (All right)
I know He's all right (Get it together for the One that is known)
Jesus is all right (I've got the power)
You know He's all right (Get it together for the One that is known)
Jesus is all right (I've got the power) (Get it together for the One that is known)
We know He's all right (Get it together for the One that is known)
Jesus is all right (I've got the power) (Get it together for the One that is known)
We know He's all right (Get it together for the One that is known)
Now we come to the payoff (Uh, uh)
[Verse 3: TobyMac, Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Bobby Byrd, James Brown]
Down with the one (Woo) that is known as the Son (Woo)
Of the G to the O to the D (Woo), never done (Jesus)
With the flow, in the know (Woo), on the go like a pro (Woo)
Not for show 'cause I ain't (Woo) in the biz for the dough (Uh) (Jesus)
Or the me, or the ray (Woo), all the dough's gotta stay (Woo)
'Cause I can't, no, I can't (Woo), take it home anyway (Jesus)
Never trite when I write (Woo) 'cause the Lord is my light (Woo)
And His Word is my bond, so ya know (Know, know, know, know) (Woo) (Uh) He's—He's all right

[Chorus 1: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Kevin Max, Michael Tait]
Jesus is still all right with me (All right)
Jesus is still all right, oh, yeah (Oh, yeah)
Jesus is still all right with me (He's all right)
Jesus is still all right (All right)

[Chorus 2: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Kevin Max]
I don't care what they may say
I don't care what they may do
I don't care what they may say
'Cause Jesus is still all right
Oh, Jesus is all right with us

[Breakdown: Joe Hogue, Michael Tait & Kevin Max, Michael Tait]
Do do do do do
Do do do (To me)
Do do do do do
Do do do
Do do do do do
Do do do
Jesus is still all right

[Outro: Kevin Max & Michael Tait]
Oh, He's all—He's all—He's all—He's all right
Think about it

About

Genius Annotation

“Jesus Is Just Alright” is just one of the many popular covers of the hit Art Reynolds Singers song of the same name, just behind The Byrdsversion and The Doobie Brothersversion respecfully. The song uses the term “all right” in its societal context in the 1960s as “cool” or “very good.”

DC Talk’s cover of the song includes new rap verses, written by McKeehan (though he is not officially credited for his writing), as a response to having Jesus' name blocked out on the radio as if it was a curse word. They also changed the lyric “Jesus is just all right” to “Jesus is still all right” to give the impression that Jesus has and will always be “in style.”

The cover was released as Free at Last’s lead promotional single, received a music video and went on to win the Rock Recorded Song of the Year Award at the 24 Annual Dove Awards in 1994. In the audio commentary on the Free at Last documentary, Michael Tait made a comment on the song, saying it is the song they perform most often live, making it an easy fan favorite.
