On June 22, 2023, Demi surprise released “SWINE”. Lovato had previously shared, back in April, a snippet of the chorus, as the description of one of their Instagram posts.
This release comes around the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle the constitutional right to a safe abortion, that was established by Roe v Wade in 1973.
This song carries a message of support for birthing people’s rights and freedom of choice, particularly the right to decide whether to continue their pregnancies. The song is also aimed at those who, in some way, try to oppress their rights, especially religious extremists.
I created ‘SWINE’ to amplify the voices of those who advocate for choice and bodily autonomy. I want this song to empower not only the birthing people of this country, but everyone who stands up for equality, to embrace their agency and fight for a world where every person’s right to make decisions about their own body is honored.

When I went into the studio to make “Swine,” my goal was to make an anthem — I wanted to write an anthem for women and people that give birth. It was something that was really thought-out for me. Yeah, to be honest, I just wanted to do exactly what you said; make a f–k you anthem to anybody that opposes our rights. [Laughs.] And it felt really good.
