Genius Annotation

“Mary’s In India” is the fourth track on Dido’s second album, Life For Rent.

At the Brixton Academy concert, Dido introduced the song saying that it was initially inspired by an autobiographical event, but then “it took on a life of its own”.

My best friend’s called Mary – she’s actually here – and this song started as a little song cause I missed her so much when she went to India, and I’m afraid it took on a life of its own. I’m sorry! And if it was true, I would be a total bitch. So I’m proud to say, it’s not true!
