If I Were a Boy Lyrics

[Verse]
If I were a boy
Even just for a day
I'd roll out of bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted and go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls
I'd kick it with who I wanted
And I'd never get confronted for it
'Cause they'd stick up for me

[Chorus]
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man
You don't listen to her
You don't care how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
'Cause he's taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

Dinah Jane peformed a cover of Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy” on her audition for The X Factor USA 2012. She made it to the next stage of the competition and was eventually put in a girl group named Fifth Harmony.

The feedback was very positive. LA Reid praised her performance, saying that Dinah took that song “places even Beyoncé couldn’t take”. Britney said that Dinah “made her day” with her singing. Demi claimed to have had the “chills” while Dinah was singing and told her she would go very far. Simon ended the feedback session by telling Dinah that her family was going to be proud of her.

In an interview to TERRELL, Dinah revealed that “If I Were a Boy” wasn’t her first song choice for her audition:

The first song I sang was “I’d Rather Go Blind”, by Etta James. Simon Cowell stopped towards the end when I was about to hit this really good note and he said: ‘Do you have another song?’. I kept listing all other songs that I had – Jessie J’s “Big White Room”, “Listen”, from Beyoncé, a Mariah Carey one. And then the last one was “If I Were a Boy”, but I had never rehearsed it.
