Hymn For The Weekend
Hymn For The Weekend Lyrics
Oh, angel sent from up above
You know you make my world light up
When I was down, when I was hurt
You came to lift me up
Life is a drink, your love's a drug
Oh, now I think I must be miles up
When I was down, when I was hurt
You came to rain a flood
[Pre-Chorus]
Said drink from me, drink from me
When I was so thirsty
Poured on a symphony
I just can't get enough
Put your wings on me, wings on me
I was so heavy
A symphony
When I'm low, I'm low, I'm low, I'm low
[Chorus]
And I, no, I, oh, I
I've been feeling drunk and high
So high, so high
Oh-oh, I, no, I, oh, I
I've been feeling drunk and high
So high, so high
Mm-mm
[Verse 2]
Oh, angel sent from up above
I feel you coursing through my blood
Life is a drink, your love's about
To make the stars come out
[Pre-Chorus]
Put your wings on me, wings on me
When I was so heavy
A symphony
Now I'm low, I'm low, I'm low, I'm low
[Chorus]
And I, oh, I, oh, I
I've been feeling drunk and high
So high, so high
Oh, I, no, I, oh, I
I've been feeling drunk and high
So high, so high
[Outro]
Mm-mm
Oh-oh-oh, oh
High, High

When creating the playlist of her life in September 2019 with Teen Vogue, Dove said about this song,
…the reason I put the cover up is because it is one of my favorite songs of all time. The lyrics are really divinity based. Like what you would say about a goddess or like something that you worshipped like it was your belief. And I think to compare love to that, to do it so well, “when I was so thirsty, pour on a symphony when I’m low”, what?! Like that’s crazy, these lyric are so next level, and they kinda just throw them away when they’re singing which makes it so good. They also could’ve been written like, hundreds of years ago, like a hundred years from now, they’re so timeless.
