God Save Us Lyrics

Oh, God save us one and all
Oh, God save us from defeat
Oh, God save us from the war
Oh, God save us on the street
Let us fight for people's rights
Let us fight for freedom
Let us fight for Mickey Mouse
Let us fight for freakdom
Oh, God save us one and all
Oh, God save us from defeat
Oh, God save us from the war
Oh, God save us on the street
Let us fight for children's rights
Let us fight for freedom
Let us stop them go insane
Let us fight for freakdom
Oh, God save us one and all
Oh, God save us from defeat
Oh, God save us from the war
Oh, God save us on the street
Oh, God save us from defeat
Oh, God save us from the sea
Oh, God save us from the quee-ee-ee-een
Yeah-eh-eh-eh

Genius Annotation

Song was written in support of Oz, the 1960s counterculture magazine, which was facing obscenity charges at the time. The magazine was originally published in Australia in 1963 and a London verison was started in 1967. Both Australian and British versions of the magazine faced obscenity charges during their runs, but most infamously it was the 1970 “Schoolkids Issue”, which featured material contributed by teenagers including a raunchy comic involving the children’s character of Rupert the Bear, which lead to a lengthy trial in 1971.
