The moment that I was inspired to write “Lay Up” is also when I heard the beat. “Royalty” by Chris Brown had come out not too long before. And “Blow It in the Wind” is one of my favorite songs. It was one of those carefree let-your-hair-down type of songs. I heard this beat, and I was like, “We can have so much fun with this.” And it was the same type of “Let’s have fun. Let your hair down and not really think about anything.”
