Tastes Like You Lyrics
I don't wanna be floatin'
Like a Polaroid in your mind
I don't wanna be callin', no, no
Just to know that you're doin' fine
[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause I'm over your touch
But I know it's never enough
I let go, but I still got caught up
This drink will always be bittersweet
[Chorus]
So I'm gonna raise one more glass to the times that we had
I know that we're both happier, it's true
But the heartache still tastes like you
No, I'm not sad that there's no goin' back
We might not have each other left to lose
But the heartache still tastes like you
[Verse 2]
Always had to be someone else
Be my own medicine for the pain
I'll never know what you never felt back then, baby
I think it's better off that way
'Cause I'm over your touch
But I know it's never enough
I let go, but I still got caught up
This drink will always be bittersweet
[Chorus]
So I'm gonna raise one more glass to the times that we had
I know that we're both happier, it's true
But the heartache still tastes like you
No, I'm not sad that there's no goin' back
We might not have each other left to lose
But the heartache still tastes like you
[Post-Chorus]
The heartache still tastes like you
[Bridge]
Every little thing I do
Everything I thought I knew, I knew, oh
Every song sounds like you
Everything tastes like you, like you, oh
Every little thing I do
Everything I thought I knew, I knew, oh
It doesn't matter what I do
The heartache still tastes like you
So I'm gonna raise one more glass to the times that we had
I know that we're both happier, it's true
But the heartache still tastes like you
No, I'm not sad that there's no goin' back
We might not have each other left to lose
But the heartache still tastes like you
[Outro]
Still tastes like you
Still tastes like you
Still tastes like you
The heartache still tastes like you
Every little thing I do
Everything I thought I knew, I knew, oh
It doesn't matter what I do
The heartache still tastes like you
About
“Tastes Like You” is a song by singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding recorded for the deluxe edition of her fifth studio album, Higher Than Heaven, released on April 7, 2023.
After a trip of 5 songs about love (track 9, Waiting For It, to track 13, Intuition) Ellie comes to us with this synth-pop heartbreak anthem, but unlike the rest of the break-up songs in the album, this one takes a more bittersweet side, with her reminiscing about a past relationship and celebrating the moments they spent together. She knows both parts are better now and it’s fine with that, but is still unable of letting go, with things reminding her of her past lover.
She performed an acoustic version of the song live on the Grammy museum prior to the album’s release date.

This is probably going slightly back to old Ellie, as a few fans who’ve heard it have said. I feel like ‘Heartache still tastes like you’ is a great lyric. Someone said it sounds like I sampled Nelly with the ‘Oh!’, but that wasn’t intentional, I promise.
