How Soon Is Now? Lyrics
I am the son, I am the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular
[Chorus]
You shut your mouth
How dare you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am a human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does
[Verse 2]
I am the son, I am the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular
[Chorus]
You shut your mouth
How dare you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am a human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does
There's a club if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go and you stand on your own and you leave on your own
And you go home and you cry and you want to die
Whеn you say it's gonna happen "now"
When exactly do you mеan?
See I've already waited too long
And now my hope is gone
[Chorus]
You shut your mouth
How dare you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does
About
The third track on Emma Blackery’s second studio album is a cover of “How Soon Is Now?” by The Smiths.
The lyrics of the original stayed the same.
Blackery revealed that some of the lyrics can relate to living in the public eye: “I always loved the line ‘I am human and I need to be loved just like everybody else does’ but it takes on a different meaning when you put yourself in the public eye and face a ton of criticism – poor me, eh? But people do forget we’re humans at the end of the day.”
Blackery said that she first heard the t.A.T.u in 2002:“ How Soon Is Now? – This is a cover of a song originally by The Smiths, but the first time I heard it was in 2002 when t.A.T.u did a cover of it. I took the idea to my partner who helped me develop it into the heaviest song I’ve recorded so far.”
