Fifth Harmony performed a cover of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” on the sixth week of competition of the X Factor USA season 2. The theme of that week was unplugged songs.
Feedback from the judges was mostly negative. LA Reid criticized the lack of harmonies, even saying that the group should’ve been named “Fifth Unison”. Britney liked their performance, but wondered what set them apart in comparison to other girl groups. Reid’s answer was: “they don’t make harmonies. That’s what makes them unique”. On the other hand, Demi claimed to have heard harmonies, but still pointed out that “the group thing” still hadn’t “clicked” for her. She felt that two of the girls should still be solo artists.
Simon criticized the feedback from the other judges, claiming it was “pick on Fifth Harmony week” again and told LA Reid that his critics were unfair because the group had been working on their harmonies.
