Fifth Harmony performed a cover of Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” on the first week of competition in the X Factor USA 2012. The theme of the week was songs made by American artists. 5H was known as 1432 by then.

The judges gave them mixed reviews. LA Reid first criticized the name of the group and then claimed that the song choice was “very talent show, very karaoke”, the production was “horrible”, and that their mentor (Simon) “really failed them”, although there was hope.

On the other hand, Britney praised their energy and said she was pleasantly surprised. Simon, upon recalling his success with groups, told them they were “fantastic”, that they were going to prove what great vocalists they were, and that the public was going to love this group.

But the highlight of the night was Demi’s comment:

The thing is: I know you guys have potential because I saw your performance at the Judges' Home and that’s when you guys really shined. I feel that, tonight, there was only one person that shined. It didn’t click for me tonight. I wanna see you guys click. I think you need more practice together, you need to come out of your shell a little bit. Right now, there’s only one person doing it for me.

At the end of the feedback session, hostess Khloe Kardashian asked Demi which girl had impressed her. Demi tried to avoid the question twice, but eventually answered by pointing at Camila. Camila humbly replied that they all shined in her opinion. Some fans considered that Demi’s comment a little bit of foreshadowing considering the future events.
