When asked who the song was about, FLETCHER has been quoted saying that she used the name as a pop trope:

I wasn’t setting out to create something that needed to be confirmed or speculated about. I just jumped at the opportunity to use a name that’s been a trope for decades.

Fans have speculated that the song is directed towards ex-girlfriend Shannon Beveridge’s current girlfriend Becky Missal. FLETCHER and Shannon’s break-up inspired The S(ex) Tapes – EP which was recorded during their quarantine during COVID-19, and Beveridge shot, directed and starred in music videos for the EP.

Although Beveridge initially distanced herself from the song, the pair has since put out limited edition t-shirts inspired by these lyrics.
