“Food Criminal” is a parody of Michael Jackson’s 1987 hit pop song “Smooth Criminal,” which is about a gangster scene instead of food theft. It is performed entirely by Fred Blankenburg and has a more acoustic sound than Jackson’s original song.
The track is a remake of a song that Blankenburg made around April 2011 for Flipnote Hatena, a defunct website where users could upload animations made with the Flipnote Studio software on the Nintendo DSi. His animation featuring the original parody was one of the most popular on the website, which ran from 2008 to 2013.
Due to the limitations of Flipnote Studio, his original version has drastically lower audio quality and is only forty seconds long:
