unison Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You're a long damn way from North Carolina now
What a goddamn victory, I guess
Swimmin' it up like assholes at Sinalei
The way my ancestors did

And if they found me face down and dead in the chuck
At least they'd know that I loved you this much
And was happy I caved upon your insistence
'Cause now it all means something
You and me, in this ageless thing

[Chorus]
And it takes and it takes
And it moves and he makes us of one mind
And he takes and he takes

[Verse 2]
And I wish I could make it so you could see yourself
Just seeing everything
Whatever it's called out there in the firmament
A screed, a view in an endless feed
Of disquiet I never knew I had, I guess
But I am full to the head with unsayable things
That I don't want to forget

[Chorus]
And it takes and it takes
And it moves and he makes us of one mind
And he takes and he takes
And it takes and it takes
And it moves and he makes us of one mind
And he takes and he takes
[Verse 3]
Tenterhooks, 'cause the gods know that I am tender prey
And heaven knows that if they balled me away
Would I reach your love again?
Flawless paradise and I am raised up in a sky blue sky
In a bad deed with no good alibis
Will I see your love again?
Will I feel your love again?

[Chorus]
And it takes and it takes
And he moves and he makes us of one mind
And he takes and he takes, oh
And it takes and it takes
And he moves and he makes us of one mind
And he takes and he takes, ooh

[Outro]
I was born and survived by some cold inner space
'Til you called out and told me I belonged in this place
And when my body was splayed in a miracle mile
"Let 'em catch me and kill me, let them take me in style"
You're the only one, the only one
That I know in some way I'll be thinking of
When I've made my bed and I've paid my dues
At least you'll know that I loved you

Dave Le'aupepe, the groups lead, also said, “If you wanna hear what the future of Gang of Youths will sound like, take a listen to the final track, unison… it’s a deeply important track for us,” in a Triple J article.
