Hurt Lyrics

[Intro]
Johnny Gash
Yeah

[Verse 1]
Mmm
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

[Chorus]
What have I become
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

[Verse 2]
Mmm
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feeling disappears
You are someone else
I am still right here
[Chorus]
What have I become
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

[Outro]
If I could start again
A million miles away
I will keep myself
I will find a way

Genius Annotation

GASHI, or Johnny Gash as he calls himself, releases a surprising cover on January 9, 2019, of Johnny Cash’s rendition of Nine Inch Nails“Hurt.”

While it’s very clear throughout GASHI’s pop and rap music that he has a deep voice and isn’t scared to go without autotune, but this cover of “Hurt,” along with the Spotify Singles version of “Creep On Me” show a more raw side of GASHI that we haven’t seen. The Spotify Singles version of “Creep On Me” also is acoustic and lacks the previously featured DJ Snake and French Montana from the studio version.

As of now with this releasing at the top of 2019, it’s clear that the Roc Nation/RCA Records/Honesty Saves Time artist is gearing up for something. It is for sure if it is the follow up to his Stairs project, Stairs 2, at this point in time.
