Paula Hartmann - Truman Show Boot (English Translation) Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Feet on the seat, subway window seat
I'm wide awake from Club-Mate, radiated like a broadcasting tower
Just want to see if I can fit into the crowd
A picture of you in my head one last time, then I'll take it down
Big mouth like a frog, lungs full of smog
I live in the tallest tower in a city built from scrap
No strength, I'm on life support, cut off what binds me
I kick the lamps out in every street, so that no one finds me

[Pre-Chorus]
Cigarette pack on my left, green glow in my Nikes
Carmex, Smints, phone dead, lips soft
Charged up, jacket down, dextrose, zero size
Living into the night

[Chorus]
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
Give me something against the fear
And for a moment, I'll believe in it, one vodka long
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
But my Truman Show boat
Crashes into a wall during sunset

[Verse 2]
Luckily nothing's in my drink, crying for three minutes
I briefly feel secure when a song I know is playing
I'm a sponge, I soak up the city enitrely
When you wring me out, all its dirt will come out
"Sundress" – A$AP Rocky, knees soft as toweling
Through stuff for just under a tenner, I'm a foreign object at the Kotti
Lost my phone, searching for peace
I stumble over sleeping people laying at the train station

[Pre-Chorus]
Cigarette pack on my left, green glow in my Nikes
Carmex, Smints, phone dead, lips soft
Charged up, jacket down, dextrose, zero size
Living into the night

[Chorus]
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
Give me something against the fear
And for a moment, I'll believe in it, one vodka long
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
But my Truman Show boat
Crashes into a wall during sunset

[Bridge]
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
Slept on every train
And so it slowly begins to feel like home
Where does love fall? (Where does love fall?)
Where do I need to stand to catch it? (To catch it?)
And even if I'm standing right
Then it's always been too big for my hand (For my hand)

[Outro]
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
Slept on every train
And so it slowly begins to feel like home
Where does love fall?
Where do I need to stand to catch it?
And even if I'm standing right
Then it's always been too big for my hand

About

Genius Annotation

“Truman Show Boot” is a reference to the eponymous movie “The Truman Show,” in which the protagonist, Truman Burbank, lives in a constructed artificial world within a television show.

In both the movie and Hartmann’s song, a boat is used to reach the boundary of this artificial world. While in the movie Truman is able to break free from this fabricated reality, in the song, the speaker metaphorically crashes the “boat of love,” and cannot escape, continuing to question the authenticity of this illusory world.
