The 8th song of the album “Angst” (English: fear) criticizes the targeted use of the human primal instinct of fear by politicians with the help of the media to incite their citizens against each other, against the unknown or against the foreign, in order to be able to dominate them (“Divide and rule” (Latin: “Divide et impera”). However, it can also be used to induce targeted self-destruction of society, for example by a mad dictator. This is shown particularly clearly in the video in which a mad politician (Till Lindemann) in a straitjacket speaks from his lectern and uses the media/internet to separate previously peaceful neighbors through fear and in the end incite them against each other until their entire world perishes in their fight against one another. The ever-smiling cheerleaders who put the mad politician on the lectern (to power) are also the ones who sell bricks for their walls and guns to the neighbors, which can be understood as criticism of lobbyists who profit from people’s fear and the resulting foreclosure and armed conflict.
