“Go Away” was a single by Gloria Estefan released in April 1993, one of four new tracks included on her first Greatest Hits compilation album. The song also appeared on the soundtrack of the motion picture Made In America starring Whoopi Goldberg and Will Smith.

The fanciful carnival-themed track masks a more serious subject: the song was rumored to have been written about Cuban dictator Fidel Castro whose regime forced Estefan’s family to flee her home country when she was only one year old.

After Fidel Castro’s death at 90 years old on November 25, 2016, Estefan posted the following on Instagram:

Although the death of a human being is rarely cause for celebration, it is the symbolic death of the destructive ideologies that he espoused that, I believe, is filling the Cuban exile community with renewed hope and a relief that has been long in coming.

The statement makes an interesting contrast when examined next to the lyric “And when you go I won’t miss you at all / I’ll be having a ball.”
