I Stand Alone Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I've told you this once before:
Can't control me

If you try to take me down
You're gonna break

I feel your every nothing
That you're doin' for me
I'm thinking you oughta
Make your own way

[Chorus]
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone

Stand alone, stand alone...

[Verse 2]
You're always hiding behind
Your so-called goddess
So, what? You don't think
That we can see your face?
Resurrected back before
The final falling
I'll never rest until
I can make my own way
[Pre-Chorus]
I'm not afraid of fading...

[Chorus]
I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside me
I'm not dying for it
I stand alone
Everything that I believe is fading
I stand alone
Inside
I stand alone

[Bridge]
And now it's my time (Now it's my time)
It's my time to dream (It's my time to dream)
Dream of the skies (Dream of the skies)
Make me believe that this place
Isn't plagued by the poison in me
And help me decide if my fire will burn out
Before you can breathe
Breathe into me

[Chorus]
I stand alone inside
I stand alone
I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside me
I'm not dying for it
I stand alone
Everything that I believe is fading
I stand alone inside
I stand alone inside
I stand alone inside
I stand alone inside

About

Genius Annotation

“I Stand Alone” is a song by American metal band Godsmack. It served as a single from the Scorpion King soundtrack on March 5, 2002. It would reappear on Godsmack’s third studio album, Faceless, the following year. It won a 2002 Metal Edge Readers' Choice Award for “Song of the Year From a Movie Soundtrack.”

“I Stand Alone” reached No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart and No. 20 on the Modern Rock chart in the US. The single achieved Gold certification for more than half million copies shipped in the United States, spurring sales of over 1.5 million copies for Faceless and propelling Godsmack to worldwide popularity.

The song was to represent the character in the movie,“The Scorpion King”. In the words of Sully Erna:

The song was written about the character, the Scorpion King, in the movie. It’s about him being this big, masculine bad ass, but he has this hidden sensitive side to him. He feels like he’s isolated, and he likes to do things alone because he was hurt in the past or whatever. I don’t really know why he is the way he is. I guess there’s always this mystique about those people who are really tough but maybe feel a little bit lonely inside. So the lyrics are kind of based on his character — being as masculine as he can be but yet isolated and a loner.

The song was also featured heavily in the 2004 video game Prince of Persia: Warrior Within in both the original form in the trailers and instrumental form in the in-game chase sequences.
