“Another World” is a single released by French heavy metal band Gojira. This is the first single released after Magma, following over four years since the band last released music.
The song details the despair of a protagonist believing the end of humanity is nigh, and the only way to escape the fate of certain annihilation is to find another world to start over.
The animated music video, released on the same day as the single, shows the band building a faster-than-light spacecraft to escape a doomed Planet Earth, with its needless slaughter of animals, a worsening climate crisis, and a deadly virus, mirroring the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. The video ends with the band successfully finding and reaching a planet akin to Earth, only to find they have reached a future where the apocalypse came and went. The group looks on in despair as they realise they are in Paris with the Eiffel Tower, referencing a similar scene from the film Planet Of The Apes.

Joe Duplantier:
We wrote this song in one day, whereas some of the others on the album took three years. The lyrics come from a feeling that the world is completely screwed, so I feel sometimes that I want another world. The video we made for it is supposed to be ironic and funny—four dudes that play in a metal band build a rocket together and travel through a wormhole to the future. It’s sort of a funny remake of Planet of the Apes. But the animation was so well-done and classy that it somehow lost a little bit of the humour that was intended.
