Rocket Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Started something
Thought it could be fun
Started something
Couldn't go on

[Verse 2]
Danger, heartache
I always knew
There's no winner
In this game you lose

[Pre-Chorus]
But I still wanna know
How she got in the door
Uninvited

[Chorus]
Ohh, I got a rocket
Ohh, you're going on it
Ohh, you're never coming back

[Verse 3]
Clichés, secrets
Stories unfold
Fooled by passion
Losing control
[Verse 4]
Danger, heartache
Something has died
No good pretending
I'm leaving this time

[Pre-Chorus]
But I still wanna know
How she got in the door
Uninvited

[Chorus]
Ohh, I got a rocket
Ohh, you're going on it
Ohh, you're never coming back

[Chorus]
Ohh, I got a rocket
Ohh, you're going on it
Ohh, you're never coming back

[Bridge]
You're never coming back
You're never coming back again, no, no
You're going out on your own
You're never coming back
You're never coming back again, oh no
You're going out on your own
[Chorus]
Ohh, I got a rocket
Ohh, you're going on it
Ohh, you're never coming back

[Chorus]
Ohh, I got a rocket
Ohh, you're going on it
Ohh, you're never coming back
You're never coming back

[Outro]
Five, four, three, two, one
We have to lift off

About

Genius Annotation

“Rocket” was the first single from Goldfrapp’s 2010 album Head First. The song is an upbeat synthpop stadium anthem, howver, it’s actually about being disappointed in love and sort of a ‘fuck-off’ to an unsatisfying partner.

Alison Goldfrapp commented on the song on Twitter during the lead-up to the release of The Singles:

It’s not about cock… but if you want it to be, then that’s ok…"

Much like the rest of Head First, it is heavily influenced by ‘80s pop and disco music, particularly Van Halen’s “Jump”

The song reached #47 on the UK Singles Chart — the duo’s first lead single not to debut within the UK top 40 since their 2000 debut single “Lovely Head”.

What did Goldfrapp say about "Rocket"?
Genius Answer

Goldfrapp told News of the World:

Rocket was the first track we worked on and it came entirely out of the big synth stab that’s on the finished song.

For us, sounds usually come with their own little story or image or character and this was a huge, stadium-filling sort of thing that got us both very excited. As soon as we heard it, we could imagine all the musical parts that would go around it, we could even picture the costumes, the lighting – and the dry ice – that’d go along with it.

Once we had [that] we could see the pathways opening up and the kind of direction we could take the record in."

Why does Alison Goldfrapp seem to dislike this song?
Genius Answer

This is what Alison said to Modjo about Rocket:

I think with things like “Ooh La La” or “Strict Machine”, although there were poppy elements and a fun-ness to them, “Rocket” was a step too far in a direction that was maybe too poppy, or something."
