FUBT Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I kinda like it when you leave me at the party late
'Cause every now and then, I wanna feel that empty space
I kinda like it when you say the things you shouldn't say
'Cause those are all the things that I was thinkin' anyway
It's wrong, but you could do no wrong
And baby, even though it makes me miserable

[Chorus]
It's fucked up, but it's true
That I love you like I do
I'm just gon' keep on lovin' you
It's tough to get through
Either way, I'm gonna lose
So I'm just gon' keep on lovin' you

[Verse 2]
I spend my mornings overthinkin' all my old mistakes
But I would never judge your problems in the same way
You beat yourself up and I let you take it out on me
Another day, another hour, no apology
How can I sleep when I can't dream at night?
All of my needs I say I don't need
How can I dream when I can't sleep at night?
All of my needs I say I don't need
[Chorus]
And it's fucked up, but it's true
That I love you like I do
But I'm just gonna keep on loving you
It's tough to get through
Either way I'm gonna lose
So I'm just gon' keep on loving you

[Outro]
It's fucked up, but it's true
Gonna keep on loving you
'Til my days are through

What did HAIM say about "FUBT"?
Genius Answer

This song was one of the ones that was really hard to write. It’s about being in an emotionally abusive relationship, which all three of us have been in. It’s really hard to see when you’re in something like that. And the song basically explains what it feels like and just not knowing how to get out of it. You’re just kind of drowning in this relationship, because the highs are high and the lows are extremely low. You’re blind to all these insane red flags because you’re so immersed in this love. And knowing that you’re so hard on yourself about the littlest things. But your partner can do no wrong. When we wrote this song, we didn’t really know where to put it. But it felt like the end to the chapter of the record—a good break before the next songs, which everyone knew.
