This song gives the alternate viewpoint of the relationship described in another Halsey song “Is There Somewhere”. She nods to the chorus of that song when she says “You’re looking like you fell in love tonight”, it’s even in the same cadence. In “Drive Slow” Halsey describes a modern relationship between two people, one of which catches feelings. From Halsey’s view point it was just a short and casual fling, but her partner is not used to this lifestyle and falls for her. Her partner clearly already has a significant other (just like in “Is There Somewhere”) but this encounter has both of them questioning their romantic convictions. Halsey tells him to keep it together because it was just a casual hookup, however she starts to catch feeling herself towards the end of the song.
