Friction Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Get down with the victim
We both know you need them

You're stuck in the middle
Of all irrelevance
And your heart is beating
'Cause you know that you gotta
Get out of the middle
And rise to the top now

[Pre-Chorus]
When you've made it
Won't ya tell me what to do?
'Cause I'm playin' it all wrong
When you've made it (When you've made it)
Won't ya tell me what to do?
'Cause I'm playin' it all wrong

[Chorus]
You can't fight the friction, so (Ease it off)
You can't take the pressure, so (Ease it off)
Don't tell me to be strong (Ease it off)
You can't fight the friction
So ease it off

[Verse 2]
And get into the system
We both know you need one
The tip of the needle
Is taking over you
And your heart is beating
'Cause you know that you gotta
Get out of the middle
And rise to the top now
[Pre-Chorus]
When you've made it
Won't ya tell me what to do?
'Cause I'm playin' it all wrong
When you've made it (When you've made it)
Won't ya tell me what to do?
'Cause I'm playin' it all wrong

[Chorus]
You can't fight the friction, so (Ease it off)
You can't take the pressure, so (Ease it off)
Don't tell me to be strong (Ease it off)
You can't fight the friction
So, ease it off

[Bridge]
Ooh
Why can't you let go?
Like a bird in the snow
This is no place to build your home

[Chorus]
You can't fight the friction, so (Ease it off)
You can't take the pressure, so (Ease it off)
Don't tell me to be strong (Ease it off)
You can't fight the friction, so
[Outro]
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

About

Genius Annotation

A very unique song by Imagine Dragons quite unlike anything they have made before. The main theme being about how most people live an average lifestyle and need to see other people in worse positions to feel better about themselves. The first lines of this song definitely are a testament to the theme.

What inspired Tim Cantor's song artwork for "Friction"
Genius Answer

According to his website,

Above all, “Friction” had to have an image that represented the sharp intensity of the song. To convey flesh and bone, resistance and surrender. I wanted that arm to appear as if you could feel the blood rushing through the man’s veins. The complex detail revolving around the open hand symbolizes energy, power, time and ambition. It also, at the risk of sounding simple, represents love in its own veiled way."

Has the song appeared in any teaser trailers?
Genius Answer

Friction was utilized in the trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018). Towards the end of the trailer, Friction’s instrumental is merged with the infamous Mission Impossible theme for a really unique effect.

It was also used in the reveal for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands.
