It’s Time/Amsterdam (Demo) Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I'm sorry, mother, I'm sorry, I let you down
Well, these days I'm fine; oh, these days I tend to lie
I recommend the train, just by the side of Amsterdam
Stuck on my left brain, just by the side of the Tin Man
If I was your last hope, considering I'm broke
Then we're doomed
Let's all just clear the room

[Pre-Chorus]
I don't ever wanna let you down
I don't ever wanna leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

[Chorus]
It's time to bеgin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger, but thеn I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand?
I'm never changing who I am

[Verse 2]
So, this is what you meant
When you said that you were spent
And now it's time to build from the bottom of the pit
Right to the top
Don't hold back
Packing my bags and giving the academy a rain check
[Pre-Chorus]
I don't ever wanna let you down
I don't ever wanna leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

[Chorus]
It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger, but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand?
I'm never changing who I am
It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger, but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand?
I'm never changing who I am

Genius Annotation

In 2019, Matt Shneider uploaded to YouTube an old interview of his where he discussed the songwriting process with Dan and Wayne.

Wayne goes on to explain that the song that had the most refining was It’s Time, as it started out differently before being rewritten and split into two songs: the current version of “It’s Time”, and separately, “Amsterdam”.

As a part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Night Visions, a 14 second snippet of this It’s Time demo was released on September 14, 2022, after Night Visions was streamed 250k times using the link in the Dragon Wagon game found on the band’s website. A separate 30 second snippet of this demo with the lyrics to Amsterdam was found by altering the URL of the first snippet.

On September 20th, 2022, the 3rd and final stage of Dragon Wagon was released and the prize for finishing the game was the full demo.
