Wild Wild West Lyrics

[Intro: Ritchie with a T, Stepa J. Groggs & Steve Albini]
Can you hear me now?
Is this thing on?

5G
They puttin' towers up everywhere (Is this thing on?)
Can you hear me now? (Wild, wild, willy)
5G, high speed

It's the wild, wild, west out here
Gotta stay on your Ps and Qs
(Don't call him Billy or he gon smack you silly)
High speed
It's the wild, wild west out here, yeah
It's ya boy, Willie Smiff
(I've got fifty thousand watts of power)
Got to stay on your Ps and Qs (yeah)

[Verse 1: Ritchie with a T & Stepa J. Groggs]
It's the wild, wild west out here
I'm Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget
I'm on that 5G, one click and let 'em–
One click can let 'em have it
High speed, soaring
I'm Norrin Radd with the intergalactic
Get baggagе, back start to spazzing
Have it
It's Willie Smiff (Willie, tеll 'em again)
It's the wild, wild, west
I'm Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget
Got the 5G
We puttin' towers up everywhere (5G, high speed)
The triple shot is hell of a hat trick

With the intergalactic (5G, high speed)
The triple, triple shot is hell of a hat trick
Before you see the end there ain't no freebies
It's Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget
It's Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget
Yeah, I'm Norrin Radd with the intergalactic
I'm on that 5G, one click can let 'em
High speed, triple shots, hell of a hat trick
My whip got the horses movin'
Or what are you doing? AI cyber truck will run em through em
The tonka same color as Willy Wonka's movement
Gobstopper, the crime stopper
5G will smoke your Cuban
Ah, you ruthless, imma opportunist
Oh, it's awkward too
When you step in an office that's a coffin too
In light speed, to infinity and beyond, we movin'
I'm beyond you humans

[Outro: Steve Albini]
Is this thing on?

Genius Annotation

Wild Wild West is a reflection on the internet (5G, one click can let em have it high speed), the desert (Arizona), space (Norrin Radd, intergalactic, infinity and beyond), and the moment in which Injury Reserve finds themselves artistically as they pave their own path. References to 5G towers, Willie Smith of Men in Black fame, Inspector Gadget, and Willie Wonka all litter the schizophrenic beat in order to capture the paranoiac feeling of both the internet itself and the band as they continue to exist in these ever elusive and shifting spaces.

The title of the song is also a reference to the internet, who raised them years ago but has transformed into something different, unrecognizable.Wild Wild West can be abbreviated to www, the World Wide Web. Its also a play on how the internet is like the wild west which is a common phrase used to say that ‘anything goes’. There were very little rules in the Wild West, much like the internet due to the anonymity.

The repeated “5G, they putting towers up everywhere” hints at this as well as the “The End Of Radio” sample

In an interview with Rate Your Music, Injury Reserve stated:

“It’s a much more schizo-analytical approach: from the sampling to playing with different characters lyrically etc… Something like "Wild Wild West” is probably the most forward example of that where, yeah, it would be easy to hear ridiculous 5G truther conspiracies taken at extreme face value, but once you place that into this Willy Smiff character referencing that film, a lot of the humor starts to come through. It opens the song up to approach some really dense shit about deserts, minerality, computers without being preachy or doing something that might as well just be printed text."

The further mentioning of Ghosts of My Life by Mark Fisher in addition to “schizo-analysis” help contextualize their production style.
