Burn For You Lyrics

It's no use pretending
That I understand
The hide and seek we play with facts
It changes our demand

Tilt my hat at the sun
And the shadows they burn dark
Light me and I'll burn for you
And the love song never stops

I like the look in your eyes
When you talk that certain way
I love the day in the life
When you know that lover's way

Minding my own business
When you came along
Temperatures been running hot
The fever was so strong

Tilt my hat at the sun
And the shadows they burn dark
Light me and I'll burn for you
And the love song never stops

Don't stop it
It's always an adventure
The fantasies we make a fact
You're the secret I desire
I can't keep that to myself

When we're not together
It doesn't feel so bad
We could be so far apart
But our love's not sad

It's no use pretending
Cause I understand
The hide and seek we play with facts
It changes our demand

Genius Annotation

“Burn for You” is the third single by Australian rock band INXS that features on the bands' fourth studio album The Swing. The blissful, romantic elation of “Burn for You” was released on 26 July 1984 and peaked at number 3 on the ARIA charts in August, remaining there for two weeks.

After seeing Australian filmmaker Richard Lowenstein’s music video for Hunters and Collectors 1982 single “Talking to a Stranger”, INXS decided that Lowenstein should make their next music video. INXS manager Chris Murphy arranged for Lowenstein to join the band on the Northern Australian coast during their summer tour. This sparked the start of a “lifelong friendship” between Lowenstein and Michael Hutchence.

The video was shot over one week and is as beautiful as the love song it accompanies. It is a rosy slice of time; a home movie of the band on their summer tour in Mackay, North Queensland of Australia that captures the warmth of their inner family. “Burn for You” is a priceless portrait of INXS in their youth, in their prime and on the verge of becoming the biggest band in the world. It captures an ethereal moment in all its glory and is what everyone wishes their home movies to be: warm memories captured forever; memories of moments that flicker by too fast.

The video won Best Promotional Video at the 1984 Countdown Music and Video Awards, while the band won Best Group Performance in a Video.
