About

Genius Annotation

Everything about 2015 inspired me to listen to new music. When I felt happy, mad, let down, sad, any kind of way at all, I went back to searching music. The initial spark of inspiration was the release of To Pimp a Butterfly. I only got to download Mortal Man before YouTube took the thing down, and had to patiently wait for the CD

Anyways, I was coming off a very… confused period of time. 2014 wasn’t a good year

But something about this thing we call Hip Hop had me – if I may quote a great song – looking at the universe different. I would find 6-10 new songs in a morning and organize them in lists, discuss them. Whatever. A great part of my 2015 was the membership – and later being admin – of this magnificent group I’m in. I could just spectate as outlook on life expands, even changes, as new creative waves of music force their way into my ears. The thousands of casuals and dozens of people I’d know but never meet, in the aforementioned group, watched me grow and took my hand

This year, to me, has been all about finding; finding music (dedicating a Finds-list to it even) and on the side, I did some great things for myself. Facing a childhood fear, dropping out of a school that had nothing to give. It has been a year of great progress I’m not often grateful enough for

The year 2015 leaves me no choice but to be grateful. Even if I’m not proud, even if I’m not content. I am grateful

So, know that whether you disagree with this or not, this is my list of 150 best songs released this year. Something I LITERALLY focused on for the whole year, to get it right, and get it right MY way. For Hip Hop as a whole, this year has been great, anyone that has listened without preconceived notions will agree. Hip Hop is alive, striving, fruitful

Without getting further lost in thought, here’s the list

PS. If you think I forgot something; I didn’t. I just didn’t think of it as highly as you. This list took some serious cherrypicking – I had more than 700 songs to cut down from
PSS. If, after accepting that, you still feel offended by my opinion, try taking the respectful route, ‘kay? Music doesn’t hurt anybody :’)
