Drug Baby Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I loved you once
I did, I did, I did
Caught under your spell
You drugged me once, admit it
Yes you did

You made me feel like a man
When I was just a boy
And yesterday has gone now, so
I'll be seeing pictures
To remember your face, yeah
To remember your face, yeah
I can't remember your...
So put down your stupid bag of tricks
They just won't work for me

Yeah, you need to work for love
I know, I know, I know
'Cause I was busy working on
Making you happy, baby
Making you happy, baby
Consult your friends for bad advice
I know you will, you will
Oh, you'll give them all your pills
The same ones that you gave to me
My baby, my baby
So put down your stupid bag of tricks
They just won't work for me

You need to work for love
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know
I know, I know

About

Genius Annotation

“Drug Baby” is the sixteenth track on Jesse’s first solo mixtape, “Truth Hurts, Truth Heals”. It is perhaps one of the most popular tracks on the entire mixtape. Unlike other tracks on the mixtape, this song has less of a hip-hop vibe and more of a dark indie vibe. This may have been the beginnings of what is now The Neighbourhood, a band that Jesse is the lead singer of. A song by them, “Silver”, sounds very reminiscent to this track sonically.

The song appears to be about a previous relationship that was unhealthy. In this track, the girl in question is described as manipulative, persuasive and controlling.
